My daughter has got chickenpox, she caught them from her boyfriend, just in time for christmas. So thats her off school early, her spots are quite bad so she will be avoiding getting her picture taken at christmas. Were hoping Craig wont pick it up, but he more than likely will, does it affect CF any differently, are there any precautions that we can take?
I thought I had had it before when I was a kid, but my mother informs me that I didnt, it was measels we all had, so maybe I will get them also....lovely.

There is a chicken pox vaccine but seeing as its already in your house it might be too late for it.
My daughter has had chicken pox with no serious side effects. She didn't get many spots at all.
I hope he and you miss out on them <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> If he misses out on the chicken pox, then I would suggest you get him vaccinated.

My brother got chicken pox when I was young and my mom wanted me to get them. It is so much better to get them young. It had no effect on my CF.

I was exposed a couple times when young and didn't get them until I was 18 right betweeen Prom and Graduation!!! Fun.

I would boost his immune system with extra C and great food and cross your fingers. I wouldn't think it would cause an issue for him. I would think you'd just make sure he rests and takes in fluid and make sure no secondary stuff creeps up after the virus passes. That's my guess.

GET MITTENS and AVENO BATH!!

Craig, Right after my daughter was diagnosed -- and before she had the chickenpox vaccine -- we had a chickenpox scare here. My doctor called the Center for Disease Control and her Infection Disease guy indicated that a drug called acyclovir would help minimize the severity if my daughter started to show signs. I'd ask your doctor about getting it. From what I understand, chickenpox can not necessarily be worsened by having CF, but some people can get the pox in their lungs and that would be the big concern for a CFer.

I hope your daughter is feeling better soon and that the rest of you can somehow avoid it!!!

Generally speaking the 'spots' are the last symptoms you catch with chicken pox. Meaning if your daughter was with your son about 14-21 days ago, that was the contagious stage. She is no longer contagious as far as I know. That is why one may think, they came into contact with it and didn't catch it. .

Thanks guys. Its Craigs clinic today, but we will need to phone his nurse this morning to see if it will be ok for him to go, he is in first at clinic. I have heard of getting spots within the lungs, thats what worried me first. One person in Scotland that I know of actually died because the spots burst inside and caused septicemnia, he was a man, dont know what age, but the older you are the more severe it can get. He didn't have CF.

If I'm going to get them I've worked out that they will hit me on Christmas morning....oh what fun we will have.
