Both my children have cultured Psuedo at times and they both took that combination of meds. They both did well with them (both still on Saline and Pulmozyme and do very well with them). The cough will get back to baseline (or none if that was the baseline). Tobi does take a long time to neb ( Hopefully you can do it this once and not have to do it again for a long time!
It is dif from person to person. This should not lead to a road of abx, but who knows. It just depends on how much in in there and if it is eraticated the first time. Hopefully so! Hang in there. Hope all goes well. PM me if you have any questions. I have a 5 year old and 1 year old both w/ CF.

Once you start the Tobi and since your son just cultured PA....expect him to back to himself pretty quickly. When my daughter was young the PA took to the treatment of antibiotic therapy fairly easily. It is only after having PA for many years (14 +) that it doesn't always react the same way!!!

The treatments will make him feel better, and that is the most important thing!

Good Luck!

i'm glad I came on here and searched PA - my son is 2 and cultured PA last month. We just finished our 21 days of Cipro and month of Tobi - on top of our normal nebs - albuterol, pulmozyme and hypertonic saline (which we just happened to start the week before Tobi!). So, I was an emotional wreck with all the new changes - poor baby has to do 2-3 nebs 4x a day. And, with Cipro, we had to avoid dairy so switched to almond milk, which meant his weight went down. But, now that cipro is done, we are back to our pediasure 1.5 and all is well with the world. My little guy is happy as can be, no cough, and looks and acts extremely healthy. We go back next week for another culture so I am just praying that the "light growth of PA" is gone!

Tobi makes me nervous - there were way too many long term side effects listed on the box!

Hi, My daughter cultured PA for the first time about a month ago. I started almost the same post in the families section about 2 weeks ago. She finished cipro and is still on Tobi 2x's a day. She is "kinda" tolerating it well, it is harsh on her throat and nose...I make her gargle w/ water after she is finished and that is helping her throat.
You will alot of great people on here who help calm your nerves and are willing to share their own experiences w/meds, etc... So far what I understand PA isn't good, but it's not always the end of the world. Her cough is junky and her pft's are down some, but, hopefully the meds will work in keeping one step ahead of it! So far her ears/hearing are fine (listed possible side effects do make you a little crazy) she coughs alot when she first starts the neb, then it subsides. I will let post more as I know more. Best of health to your son!
