Was wondering who takes care of your kids with cf? I have been taking mine to work with me, he's 4 months old. I am co-owner in a company, and everybody has been sympathetic to my situation. however, I'm afraid to put him in daycare. My other kids are preschool and kindergarten age and bring home enough germs as it is...i don't want to expose my son even more. Although, I don't know how much longer I can take him in to the office and him cooperate. I'm not there full time or anything...A couple hours here and there.....no more than 4 hours. Right now it works, because he's small....but don't know about the future. I want to just quit, but we can't afford to. He's not sick enough yet to qualify for ssi, so was wondering if i'm being overly scared or precautious? Do most of you stay home with your kids? Just wondering how everyone else is handling this....

DS is 5 1/2 and has gone to a daycare center since he was a little younger than your child.

When DS was diagnosed, we asked our doctor about it. His concern was with the size of the group DS would be with and if they were kept separate from the germy toddlers. DS was one of 6 babies, which were kept apart from the rest of the kids.

The daycare is good about telling us if and what is going around the daycare. Cleaning and sanitizing toys, surfaces... Proper handwashing. I once stopped by to pick up DS early and his caregiver was changing his diaper on the changing table, wearing gloves. Sanitized the table when she was finished.

It's hard to put down in a few short sentences about our decision -- we thought long and hard about it. Eventually he'll go to school and would be exposed to germs, but we were also worried about keeping him healthy as a baby, worried about the what ifs...

Hi, I completely understand your worries and concern. We have been lucky with our daughter that she has been really healthy.

For almost a year after her diagnosis she was kept at a in home day care (only 4 other kids) and taken well care of (however f.y.i no one will ever care for your kids they way you do).

Then my father moved to our city and offered to keep her for me, which was great!! He has been keeping both of my kids at my house for about 3 years now.

My daughter and son both go to a pre-school 3 days a week at a highschool ( the h.s.teacher teaches her students how to run a day care) This has also been great because it is a small group of kids and I know the teacher real well. Plus it is very cheap ( the teacher is not allowed to make a profit)

Avery will go to Kindergarten next fall and I am a little worried for her, but I think the pre-school has subjected her to the right amount of germs for her little body to be used to it.

Be aware that you will get many different opinions about this and try not to let them bother you. You need to do what is right for you and your situation.

Take care and good luck!

Since you do not work full time and have a bit of flexibility, you might be able to do what I do. I have an in-house sitter. I pay her a "salary" every week -- but its only $100 a week compared to a more pricey day care and we have a committment so that she won't just up and leave me at the drop of a hat. I've been very fortunate. Even though I've been through 2 different sitters through my CFers lifetime, both have been amazingly helpful and reliable. It has worked soooo well for us!!!
