Childcare

We had our eldest boy in daycare from 1 year of age right through to school, never had a problem at all. Our youngest is 15months now and has been in childcare since 6 months and over the the last 6 months has been in for 3 admissions totally a whopping 54days. We have now placed in a family day care so 5 kids in total in this ladies house (family friend but run through proper agency) and although its only been a two weeks we all love it.

It's really a hit and miss things - case by case whats right for some is not for others. Look at my family two boys exact same genes completely opposite experiences. i came super close to quitting my job this year, a job that I absolutly love and my doctors and the social worker all told me not to, as you need that break away from everything or else CF becomes your life.

Again its a completely personal decision and one that only you can make and can justify. Good luck with your choice.

I know that my child does not have CF but I am going to chime in anyway because I'm the one with CF. As of right now, because of me having CF and Transplants, Brady stays home with me because of the risk of him getting sick at a Daycare and bringing it home to me. I do however have a meeting at a daycare tomorrow for a per diem basis. There are days that I have appointments where Brady just cannot go with me and I don't have any family in the area who doesn't work and can babysit him for me. So, having to send him to a daycare is my only choice right now. My understanding is though that this lady only has a few children that she takes care of so it's at least better than him being in a huge crowd of kids.

As for me growing up with CF....I was babysat but whomever my Mom could find because she was a single parent with 4 kids. I also went to head start and then to public school my whole life and I did absolutely fine with the germs. It wasn't until after high school and college that I got really sick and needed the transplants.

Thankfully, I have my mom to keep my daughter. Recently, we even moved to the same complex and ended up getting our apartments right next to each other! It sure makes it convenient to just walk her next door and drop her off. She has never been in daycare. I used to work in a few a long time ago and because of what I'd seen working there I would never want to put my child in one. Now she is 7 and has to go to public school. I work 3 days a wk for 13 hrs a day so my mom has to do everything those 3 days but I get to be off for 4 days straight so I guess it's ok. I wish I could do what you do though! That sounds great! My job is not flexible at all. They don't care what your excuse is for even being 2 min late. It sucks because I do have to be late or even miss sometimes due to cf stuff. I just hope they don't fire me. Take care!
