Child's first real winter

Hello

My daughter Kaelie has CF and has been having a really hard time coping this winter. She has been very sick. It seems like she has had this cough since September, when she started day care. I asked her doctor if I should take her out of day care but he said that it's helping her get ready for school.

I am just concerned. I want to see my daughter healthy. As it is, I am not even sure what a "normal" day for her is supposed to be like, or even what a "normal" pooh looks like.

I guess I am just hoping that people could post stories about their child's first real winter so I can know if what she is going through is normal or not....I'd like to compare to see how we are doing.

Thank you kindly,

Is your daughter gaining weight? I would try & make an appt. with the cf clinic to discuss these issues. Mention to them that she's had her cough for months. Maybe they need to run another throat culture and get her on an antibiotic. Keep us posted.

My 5 month old great nephew has had a cold since he was born, after sweat testing him (negative) and numerous other tests, they think he has GERD and that's what's making him cough all the time. This was just discussed a couple of days ago & last night, he had a good night after taking some meds for GERD. You may ask your Dr is this could be a possibility? Someone may need to help me explain what "GERD" stands for. I know it's ___ ____ Reflux Disease.

Yes she is on antiobiotics. She has been on antibiotics pratically all winter but nothing seems to fully take her cold away. Everytime she is close to recovery, she relapses. She had her antibiotic switched a couple of days ago. She was feverish today and very languid.

GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) seems to be associated with persistent heartburn but that doesn't seem to explain why she can't get over this cold...

My doctor thought I may have GERD because I have a raspy voice & always have to clear my throat. One of the symptoms is having this phlem type stuff in the back of your throat that you can't seem to swallow, etc.
These symptoms also sound like normal CF things, so I'm not convinced I have GERD too.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

That happened to my daughter when she was 3 months old. She would not get better, then they put her in the hospital for iv antibotics for 10 days and it was the best thing for her and she has been sick free and cough free for months! It sounds like she needs to be ecxubated(sp?) She is now 7 1/2 months old and has fought off 3 colds on her own!! I would take her to the cf clinic and ask about hospital ivs, it sounds scary but i noticed a difference the first treatment of ivs!!!
Good Luck!
