Hi there,

I've always been interested in alternative therapies, but never chinese herbs until now. Today I went to see a chinese medicine doctor. I had 3 weeks of IV's for cepacia ending last tuesday. Today and yesterday I felt crappy, and woke up with a sore throat, which for me is the first sign that I have "caught" something--- a virus, a cold, whatever. I was SO pissed.

So i happened to go home and there's this chinese doctor near my family house that i've always wanted to try, so I thought what the heck, might as well try now. I am desperate to get well before Friday, when I have a trip to Miami planned.

So she did acupuncture, which was good and I am not afraid of. Then she gave me some herbal tea which is just Isatis Root tea, and I looked it up and am not concerned about taking.

She gave me some other herbs though, which have a bunch of ingredients I don't know what they are. My plan is to look up every single ingredient on the internet. But I was wondering if any of you take chinese herbs and have any problems with them, or any interactions. I know we have to be careful about what we take, but as of now I am in the dark about these. I am however, willing to try anything.

I dont really want to ask my doctor b/c I know she will just say she can't call it unless she sees the box, and its not like they believe in chinese medicine.

any experience any of you have with this would be appreciated.

a rough listing of the herbs that are in these little pills are:

Foxglove Root
Counus Fruit
Tuckahoe Root
Moutan Padicis
Chinese Yam
Water Plantain Tuber
Chinese Cassia Tree Bark
Prepared Aconite Root

Herba Leonauri
Radix Condonopsis
Rhizoma Atractylodis
Poria
Radix Glycyrrhizae,
Rhizoma Chuanxiong

I know this is a lot of weird names, but I thought I'd list them in case anyone recognized any of the names and knew anything about them.

Thanks so much!

I hope you get feeling good by Friday~ good luck!

hi Kelli

I am feeling better - knock on wood. I am thinking very positively though and feel like if I think i am better than i WILL be better.

She put in three needles in the acupuncture. I was on my stomach and she put them in my back, to the right of my spine in the middle of my back, sort of in a vertical line.

2 of them hurt, not terribly but there was definite discomfort. Supposedly it is supposed to hurt though, if you have a real problem.

I drank the anti viral tea she gave me, but have still not taken the herbs--- i am a little wary and not sure if i want to yet.

I definitely will go back for acupuncture. Thanks for your thoughts, i am determined to go on my trip!!

Be careful and read up on these three considering you take other meds.

Foxglove- is a nick-name for Digitalis. It's poisonous to ingest but I'm sure the doc wouldn't have given you a tea with enough to harm you. Digitalis is used to make heart drugs including lanoxin...I forgot the others though.

Aconite root- If I remember right, it contains an alkaloid and can be used topcally, as a painkiller and anaesthic. So that means it can be toxic in concentrated doses. However there are hundreds of species of aconite.

Poria- is a fungus (edible mushroom type). It works as a diuretic.

You forgot Snake-meat and Turtle-guts!
Seriously, they also use some sort of snake (the wife actually spiked my soup with it, once!), and turtle, called "Spoon" (the double "o" is pronunced as in the word "tool").

I am going to an acupuncturist. It sounds like this lady worked on your bladder meridian. Possibly spleen too? CFers have weak spleens. The bladder meridian is along the spine area and down the entire back and legs. Did she put needles in your lower legs and hands too? Just curious. Where is the lady located?

I would not take herbs because of my transplant. I think it would be wise for any person who is waiting for a transplant not to take herbs as well unless they are very mild. Nothing that really boost the immune system.

I noticed on the shelves my acupuncturist office he had herbs called Lung Clear. I can tell them are very powerful. I picked one package up and muscle tested and I was totally weak. That must mean that whatever is in the package must be too powerful for me. I would never take them anyway but was curious with the muscle testing. I absolutely love muscle testing.

My guy is teaching me breathing and relaxation. It is good if your AP teachers you healing exercises.
