Chronic Headaches and Sinus Problems

So sorry to hear of your sinus problems and headaches. From our experience: my son was having terrible headaches prior to his 3rd surgery. I took him to a neurologist who had some drug recommendations which did help him.But now that he is doing better he has weaned himself off these drugs. We are leary of taking too many medications if there is another way!! Second, his ENT knew something different was going on when the congestion kept coming back and was very thick and sticky (hence, the Ambry full genetic panel to test for CF). My son visits the ENT every 4-6 weeks for a checkup and if needed, his sinuses are cleaned out. This has reduced the number of infections and he has not had surgery in 1.5 years. Previously, he had the first surgery, then 8 months later a second procedure and then 11 months later the third one. Good luck!

I have severe disabling sinus headaches with pressure every minute of the day! The intensity level changes, but the headache never leaves. They started at age 11 when my forehead sinuses developed. Fortunately most CF don't develop Frontals(forehead).

*Where are your headache?

*Please be careful about surgery. I've had over 10 extensive sinus surgeries. I now have Scar tissue & nerve damage which makes the headaches worse. I've had several emergency sinus surgeries because my sinuses were literally going to kill me.

*Keeping the pain manageable is a challenge. Over the counter pain meds are ineffective. I was finally referred to a pain specialist. He prescribed a lot of powerful prescription meds that I hate taking, but it is the only way to keep the headaches somewhat under control. I sometimes use steriods to somewhat relieve the pressure. The pressure can be worse then the pain!

*It takes antibiotics longer to help the sinuses. Oral didn't help. I ended up on IV's for 6 to 12 weeks, every 2-3 months, but then my sinuses are very unusual.
My ENT often prescribes Bactroban saline rinse. It is very soothing & gets straight to the infection. I like it better them other anitbiotic sprays. I also use NasacortAQ. Flonase dryed my sinuses out. My sinuses are so dry. Esp since I use oxygen a lot which really irritates them.

I hope you find relief soon! Headaches are so miserable!

could you describe your headaches please...my son has AWFUL headaches that make it hard for him to eve function., He goes to the ENT at the end of the month for a CT scan but any info I can get ahead of would be great. I'm wondering if they are the same 'type' of headache
Thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
