Chronic Pain

When I get achy I know I am low on magnesium. If I bulk up on magnesium it goes away. Just make sure to take calcium with it to avoid diarhea. I asked my dr whether I could take too much and he said normally your body will filter out what it doesn't need and will be excreted through your urine. Maybe try to take some and see if it helps.
I cannot take ibuprofen because of hemoptysis problems.
Also you could add some Epsom Salt to your baths which is magnesium sulfate.
Good luck and hope you find something that helps.

Jonathan just in case you dont know already, using over 2g of tylenol a day long term is highly toxic on your liver and can cause cirrohsis (sp). Please be careful with tylenol especially because cf causes us to be proned to liver problems anyways.

I understand the achiness-personally, I try to avoid the pain meds. Although, I do use ibuprofen-I have found that if I am faithful about stretching that that helps somewhat.

Not that it will "cure" the reason for the pain but do you exercise daily? If not, look up how exercising stimulates Pacinian corpuscles, Meissner corpuscles, Merkel,s discs, and Ruffini corpuscles in helping to override the free nerve endings possibly causing your aches and pains. Limbic stimulators of enkephelin, serotonin, and endorphins definitely play a huge roll too and are produced with exercise! Most PCP's won't likely care that much to help but maybe you should see a physical therapist. Could be helpful (if he/she is a clinical specialist). Although the general body aches and pains may be experienced by lots of cfer's (maybe even a symptom for some mutations) the above may be necessary to help the body find painlessness by compensating for something "missing". BTW stretching, mentioned above, also activates some of those same mechano receptors. Hope this gives you some distraction from pain while you look this stuff up. LOL

There is actually a study that shows that taking high dose IBprofin lowers inflammation in the lungs. I'm about 120 pounds and I take 2.4 GRAMS of motrin per day because it really helps my lungs that much. (It is perscription- don't worry )

oh yeah- they have to do bloodwork for all that and stuff but as far as motrin goes if your levels are good then the dose isn't toxic to your organs- although I am off it when I'm on IV abx to avoid further damage to my organs

I'm right there with you! Ibuprofen is my pain drug of choice, hands down. I often feel like it will break a fever faster (and longer) than tylenol does, whether it's accompanying pain or not.

What everyone here has said about eating with it and watching your stomach is very good. You can also just swallow it with a glass of milk if you don't want to make sure you eat something every four hours (or however often you're taking it). One thing ibuprofen can do long term is bother your kidneys. Make sure you keep yourself well hydrated and drink a good amount of water through out the days that you tend to reach for seconds or thirds (or fourths) of ibuprofen.
