Clear culture - whoopee!

They swabbed Katy at her doc visit last Monday and they called today to report that her culture was clear of everything! She had cultured PA in early September and is in the middle of a 3 month solid TOBI regimen (among other things, as you know).

Although my husband and I are very happy, I know from reading here that throat swabs aren't necessarily going to catch everything. And this doesn't change her treatment regimen - the doc plans for her to be on TOBI 28 on/28 off for ever, I guess.

So although I am cautiously optimistic I can't tell anyone else because there is no way anyone would understand! In fact some people might even think this means she is cured or something......So I just have to sit on this news, but at least I can post it here and know that you guys understand. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the bugs stay away for a long long long time. You parents with kids in the hospital have my love and prayers.

Great news Dana!! Abby is now on the 28 day on/off TOBI regimen and although we all hate it, it does work for her. She hasn't had to be on an antibiotic since May. Hope it works as well for Katy.

I remember our 1st clean culture, which lead to a 2nd and 3rd and 4th. Our daughter waited a long time before coming off the nebulizer even though her cultures were clean. Four months ago they took her off the nebulizer and we just had the 2nd clean culture w/o any tobramycin.
She also had a bit of a cold recently a(mostly sinus) and they suggested letting her ride it out w/o any meds and she did it!!! What a wonderful feeling to hear so many are doing well.

p.s. She did culture Staph but they aren't treating it because there are no symptoms...which we think is a good thing for building her resistance to antibiotics.
