Climate...Does it really make a difference?

I do think that climate makes a difference...the problem is that no 2 people are the same so you can't really tell how any person is going to react to a specific climate.

I have 2 daughters with CF and we lived in MN for 4 years. The girls were extremely healthy but I couldn't help but think that a milder winter would be better. So we moved to South Texas (McAllen).

Within in 1 years time, my then 6 year old daughter had 5 sinus surgeries. She had not had any sinus problems previously. So we knew pretty quickly that the climate there was not going to work.

We then moved to West Texas (Midland). It's still hot here but very dry. There is almost no humidity in the air. The change in her health was dramatic. We've been here for almost 2 years and she has been doing extremely well. She gets nosebleeds occasionally because it is so dry but she's not required any more surgeries.

So, yes... climate can make a difference, but everyone will react differently to different climates so it's hard to say how your son will do... I'd say to live where you think you will be happiest...not based on CF. And then make adjustments if you see a dramatic difference.

Good Luck!

I'd highly recommend visiting her in December or January... The summers are unbelievable down there...

Well, being that you live in MN, you know about extreme weather. Just think of the exact opposite of MN. You know how in Feb. in MN you have to catch your breath when you go outside??? Well in Alamo/McAllen, you do that in the summer when you go outside.

You know how your mirror fogs up in the bathroom when you take a shower? That's what your sunglasses do everytime you get out of your car down there in the summer. You have to take them off and dry them. It's crazy. We bought our dream home there (cost of living is very inexpensive). We loved it... the humidity was just too much for Kacie to tolerate.

I've seen alot of homes online that are beautiful for so little I couldn't believe it. Me and my husband are guessing that there isn't alot of work around there though and that pays descent.
