My social worker is great. She always asks, and is positive and supportive. But if I needed real therapy I'd go to someone for that specifically. Personally, I think they are too expensive to keep on staff, and also too hard to find.
Yes, the social worker and the nutritionist have been on staff for over 15 years and I think they are just complacent. They know they're not going anywhere so they do as little as possible. All our nutritionist does at clinic is carry a basket of goodies and passes is out to each patient. Nothing like job security!

There is a pediatric psychologist on my daughter's CF team. And although, my child is only 16 months she always checks in with us at clinic and offers to answer ANY questions or concerns we have. She has even called me when we missed her at clinic to see if everything was okay with the entire family. I just assumed a psychologist was a standard CF team member. We are even Montana. Our pulmonologist travels 6 hrs to clinic and our state does not have a pediatric GI doctor. For that someone from WA or CO comes a few times a year? so i figured if we had a psychologist, most other centers would too. We only recently became a stand alone clinic and not just a Denver "satellite" clinic
Our social worker is very good. She gives us extra time when we need it to address whatever we have going on and will see us outside clinic hours as well when needed (she's seen my other kids for example during a time they were having a very hard time dealing with the effect Emily's illness was having on the family and had several sessions with Emily outside clinic during a time she really needed it.) She's been a good resource for information as well for me- directing me to some services we needed, she also gave a referral to an excellent therapist I now see (who only sees families dealing with chronic medical needs- a perfect fit.) Our social worker serves both the pediatric and adult sides of the center.
