I am glad you found this place, too. It helps to have people who understand, even if they are not physically near you. My little girl is continuously battling c.diff. It is amazing how it takes the weight off. I will be thinking of you and wishing those pounds back on your son every time I add some fat to her food. So, at least you know you'll be getting CONSTANT thoughts from me since I'm always trying to sneak in the extras! Best of luck to you!

I practically gag thinking about insure and some of those other beverages. Carnation instant breakfast tastes like melted ice cream to me. Right now DS is on a vanilla kick and fortunately Sam's club has started carrying it and it's a LOT cheaper -- $6.50 for 22 packages compared to almost $5 for 10 at the grocery store.

I started off mixing up about 3 cups of whole milk, 1-2 ounces of cream and a package of carnation instant breakfast. Not as sweet tasting. Othertimes, I just mix up a package of it with 1 cup of milk and an ounce of cream. I keep a quart container in the fridge for convenience.

If DS just wants plain milk, I just grab the whole milk, add a big splash of cream to the glass, too.

Sorry you are having such a rough time right now. I hope you are able to get things turned around and he begins feeling strong and healthy again.

Do you do any natural therapies or supplements to help support the gut against inflammation? This can often help in weight gain and appetite. If you would like some ideas, I'd be happy to share some. PM me.

We have some great smoothies and high cal recipes on the site below if you are looking for new things. Those OTC drinks have a lot of hydrogenated fats, sugar and corn syrups in them and are know to cause more inflammation (which adds to malabsorption). I still do not for the life of me understand why these OTC drinks are recommended to CF people. A couple of the adults on the other board have some great home made concoctions as well with health fats and calories.

We are all here to help each other. We are all doing our very best to navigate this life and CF. You can do this!!

Sending you lots of positive energy.
