I am on colistin, instead of gentamycin. I am having a problem with it getting foamy in the nebulizer and I am unable to breathe it in. Does anyone else have this problem and how are you addressing it. It is so expensive, I don't want to waste it. But hwen it's foamy, you cannot breath it inThanks Mika

Hi Mika, I had that same problem when i started using it again recently. I found that you cannot use it with the sidestream, the pari, or the a-corn nebulizers. I used it with the...... i think its called the t-draft nebulizer. I am no sure of the name , but its the one they usually use in the hospitals. Its the standard nebulizer that you are told not to use for pulmozyme. I had much better luck with using the colistin in that one, it still foamed but not nearly as bad. Good luck, ~ Diane

My daughter has been on Colistin. We use the Pari neb cup and it works fine for us. When you are mixing it with the sterile water(or whatever you use) add the water slowly, then be sure to mix it by rolling the bottle between your palms gently. Do NOT shake! I also am slow at putting the mixture into the neb cup also. We really like how fast the Colisitn nebs!

I too am on colistin, and experience the annoyance of it bubbling. But I'm usually able to continue breathing it in until it is all gone. I don't know, but it really seems to work for me!!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Hi, my daughter too had the same problem with too much foaming. After trying both the Pari and the Sidestream we were told to use the regular ole disposable nebulizers. The same as someonelse mentioned, roll the vial, do not shake to mix. Also, if you are adding saline, stop adding the saline only use the sterile water. You can also add your albuterol to it, not the premix. This is what we were told last year. We have been doing it this way for a year now. It cut way down on the foaming. We mix up each days use in the AM, so the evening dose has already settled. We have since changed back to the Pari and haven't had any problems with excess foaming. We were told the saline really gets the foaming and bubbling going and that it was OK to not add it. We mix 2cc sterile water to the colistin in the vial, then add 2cc sterile water in the neb. with the regular dose of albuterol. Check with your clinic first though. Liza
