So i'm in my second year of college at a JC and next year im going to be moving away from home. I'm going to be living with my best friend so i'm not at all worried about my treatments or worry about having to explain my cough or have a room mate get used to living with a CF'er cause she is already used to me by now lol <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> but what my question is how do i fit college life into my CF life. College is supposed to be about living out on your own and going and having fun and im just worried about making myself sick if i do it to. And i dont want to be around any smoke and i know that that will just be darn near impossible if i go to a party. I just wanted to get any advice or anyone elses thoughts about how college can fit into the life of a CFer. I want to have fun and not miss out on anything but i dont want to ake myself sick and miss out on everything completely.

I only went to college for about 2 years, but the one thing I did learn was know your limit. And respect that. If you aren't feeling good, and your gut instinct tells you not to go out, don't go out. Know you're on antibiotics? Then don't drink that night. Know your limits. =) Hope this was at least somewhat helpful.

I went away to school, got a random roomate and had to do the whole explanation but we ended up very good friends. Make the most of it! But like the previous post know your limits. I have a mild FEV1 and did very well, when I was sick I took it easy and when I wasnt I probably partied a bit too hard, but I wouldnt change things, College was the best thing I ever did and I am now married with a daughter!! Now I did know another CF person at school who did not know his limits and he ended up quite sick from going full force all the time!!

Just enjoy yourself, be honest with yourself about what is realistic, know you will make mistakes but that is what life is all about. Most of all have fun, these will be the best years of your life!
