Not too much to add.

Just wanted to write to say that not everyone in America uses the vest. While it is very helpful, I imagine especially for young ones, many of us still use manual treatments and/or exercise to keep bring up mucus. Some people uses the vest and love it. It is very expensive without insurance - I am sure someone else has much more information on it. Good luck!

My son was sick when he was 8 with MRSA. He had symtoms from Sept - May. He had such a horrible cough that he could not sleep and he lost weight. I finally couldn't take it anymore and took him to a ear, nose & throat doctor. They a pic line in, and he was on IV antibiotics for 3 weeks. After the first 3 days , there was a noticable difference. Since then, it's been dormant. I know they have an oral version of one of the meds Zyvox. I don't know if your little guy is too young. I know how scary it is, but hang in there. Don't stop annoying the doctors until the MRSA is dormant.

Hello

Just in reply to your question about the vest: People in the US are able to obtain the vest through their insurance. Im in Australia, and would have to purchase the vest (which has just become available here)...the cost here is $14000 for the pump part of the vest, and $500 for the actual vest itself. I've post a link to the vest site, perhaps you could email them like I did and find out if it's available over there. I think the only way we will be able to get the vest is to win lotto <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Otherwise, maybe some sort of fund raising activity!

Just to add: there is a next generation Vest made by the original physician who created the original machine at

If you're going to pay cash, you might as well get the best on the market.

The Respirtech is also cheaper. It is $12,900 for the vest and machine. The Hill-rom is around $16,500. We have both and we LOVE the Respirtech.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 5 and Jack, 3 both with cf

Vest is far cheaper than costs of a hospital stay, lung damage... And the vest has a lifetime guarantee... Still, it is a big chunk of change. But whatever it takes to keep those lungs happy and healthy.
