Colonoscopy

I was recently evaluated for tx and it was too early. However, they gave me a list of things to get done in the mean-time. One of them was a colonoscopy.

My question is, have any of you had one done & did they put you under, just make you so you don't care, or what? I'm a bit apprehensive about being put under & have not scheduled my appt yet, so am not even sure if that's protocol or not.

Hey,
I didnt have to get a colonoscopy prior to getting listed but it could be because of your age. I have seen lots of colonoscopies done as a nurse and they give you awesome drugs which keep you awake but really comfortable and an amnesiac so you dont remember anything. The worse part is the prep.
Good luck and dont worry, you will be off in lala land during the whole thing.

Prior to my tx and post tx I have had it done. No big deal. I was given the meds Michael Jackson took, which is standard. You are out, but not surgery out. You wake up in no time. I drove myself home.

When I had my colon resectioned because of an obstructive benign tumor and then had emergency surgery to remove adhesions resulting from the resection two weeks after the initial surgery, each time I was under total anesthesia. The most important thing is to make sure the anesthesiologist is highly qualified to work with COPD patients. But all in all it is not an issue worth worrying about; it is a routine procedure, which lasts for only a few minutes.

It was difficult to control my sugars since I couldn't eat solid food for 24 hours. Lots of jello and broth. They gave me the "happy" drugs for the procedure to make it bearable. Hope this helps.

My son had one done during an evaluation a couple of years ago. He as 18 at the time. It was required for everyone at this clinic regardless of age.
He had no problems and was totally knocked out. Research the preps. There is a new one on the market that is much easier on the system and does not make you drink as much liquid.
