I guess ill just start off with a bit about myself first. I first found outI had cf whenI was 10, im about to turn 22 now,I just recently found outI have cepatia. My boyfriend andI really want totry for a baby, but we know there are risks involved and that its not as easy as it is for a lot of healthy people. I currently havemirana IUD to treat my endometriosis soI dont want to take it out until we arefully prepaired. My lung function is fairlylow right now, so we are working very hard to get it up and keep itthere. If any one cangive me some advice or personal experiences that would be great!Love, laugh, breath <3

I am currently 22weeks pregnant, so I am still going through the whole thing and learning along the way.

I think you are starting in the right place by working on the lung function. My Drs wanted me to be at the highest possible for me which was 75% , I know for everyone it is different. I think from what Ive heard most doctors dont like you to be below the 50% range for pregnancy since there is always a good chance your lung functions will go down with the increased pressure the baby will put on them. At half way I have already dropped to 67%, but I have been fighting with my psuedomonas because I usually take levaquin to treat it and cant with the pregnancy. So I am now doing the Cayston and TOBI alternating.

Nutrition is another thing that is important. I thankfully didnt have any issue prior. I was at 138 I believe and in the beginning even with no mornin sickness I still dropped 6-8 pounds from the toll it took on my body. I have since started gaining the appropriate amount. My OB wasnt ever concerned, he said the only time they worry is if the baby isnt growing and as of right now my baby girl is right on track.

The other thing would be to look at your meds you are currently taking and see what you would have to stop taking ( if anything) and possibly also talk to your Dr about what you will and wont be willing to take/do should you have an infection.

Its never too early to find someone you are comfortable working with for when you get pregnant. I personally have a high risk OB who has experience with CF patients, but from what im learning its not something or someone you have to have. My Drs also work really well together which is think is important since there will be times your health and treatment might have to cross each other such as meds and if you end up needing IVs while pregnant.

I dont think there is ever any complications what happen with every pregnant CFer, everyones experience seems to be different. There are things I have posted/asked about on here that others havent ever had to deal with.

Sorry this is so long. If you have any more questions feel free to PM me. There are a few other regulars on here that are really good with this subject too. Also going back and reading older posts mighe help answer some questions for you.

Good Luck!

DainaMay, Since Mirena is a hormonal IUD. I would have it out for 6 months before expecting to try with any sort of success. Could you take it out and use condoms? Once I was okay with the idea of getting pregnant but it wasn't quite the ideal time I gave myself 6 months of using natural family planning method as I discovered my cycle and as it became more regular because I was coming off of birth control pills. I would say I used it effectively because I was not pregnant in that time but on tht 7th month I felt I knew exactly when I would ovulate. We tried the day before and the day after and voila I was pregnant! I wish you the best on your journey!

Thank you for the advice! I met with a high risk OB on monday, and he pretty much said the same things i have read on other blogs plus what you guys have said <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> He said that he didnt see a reason as to why i shouldnt have a normal pregnancy, as long as i get my lung function up before getting preggers <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
