I basically just came on to say godaddy.

Best thing I would suggest doing is maybe see if you have a technical school in the area one that offers courses in website design and/or degrees and whatever and put an add in their paper saying you're looking for somebody. Students are usually looking to build their portfolios and having a professional website on there is a boost. Usually hiring a company or firm to design a website, depending on the company, can get really expensive. Especially if you're interested in selling stuff which requires a lot more details: e.g. database setup, etc. Most of the companies that I've heard of bill by the hour and it usually starts at 60$ per hour for some of the better looking more reputable companies.

That being said if you do go and hire a website design company they'll usually design a site for you, and you can either hire them on to do maintenance for you for a fee, etc. Some companies will include hosting in the whole website design/maintenance package, some won't. It depends on the company.

Googleing website design does come up with this: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.xemion.com/">http://www.xemion.com/</a> which may or may not be of some help.

That being said some tips:
Avoid flash heavy sites and make sure whatever you do the website is cross browser compatible.
Not everybody uses IE.
