confused about BLOOD TEST results

Ok, so i called clinic to find out Olivia's blood test results which were done two weeks ago. I'm pissed that no one from clinic had called to tell what they were so that i could stop what i was doing grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Now to the results (i should have been given 2 weeks ago)

They said her

ALP - alkaline phosphatase was 318, but should be around 300

Zinc - 19.1
Vit E - 32
Vit A - 2.8

all 3 are too high (so iwas asked to stop vitabdecks alltogether) mind you, she is only on 1/2 a cap 3 times a week which is already a minimal dose.

Vit D was ok

heamagloben (sp) red cells are low with slight mycro/myo cytes. doc said could be Iron defficient (sp) or Thalasemmia.

Sorry i'm in such a rush, i just want answers, what deos this mean. Can someone that understands these results please give me some insight on what is going on. Im real freaked out at the moment. Also because the doc was real quck on the phone and had to go, so she couldn't explain much. I now have to wait another 2 months before her next clinic visit to work out what's going on and what to do.

I don't want to wait i want answers now, so that i can get to the bottom of this.

Maybe i'm just a freaked out mum, who knows. I just want answers

Sorry for the rant *sigh*

sorry I have no clue and cant help but I do hope someone else can. Just dont be too worried, Im sure if it was really really serious the doc would have done something about it, but I dont blame you for wanting answers and wanting to get to the bottome of this.

i wouldnt be concerned about the high vitamin levels. sometimes cfers absorb more vitamins than we think. i have had high vitamin a and d levels on occasions.

heres some info on alp http://www.labtestsonline.org/...analytes/alp/test.html [read the bottom]. i dont think docs worry too much about slightly raised liver tests anyway.

as for the iron they will need to give you more info than what they have told you. "could be" "might be" is so vague. dont panic though. whatever it is its treatable.

Thanks Jen and Kylie for your replies. I was kind of hoping i would get more, but not to worry. Maybe no one has an explanatiion for me.
So i guess i'll have to wait until we see the docs, so that we can get more answers.

Kylie - -the low iron (low red blood cell) result is the one i am most concerend about and realy need some more answers. I think i am going to push for a re test 2 wks after i have stopped the vitabdecks alltogether, to see where we stand.
Also, thanks for the link i'm going to check it out right now.

the vitabdecks wont make any difference to the tests that matter. the zinc e and a will probs come down a bit but that doesnt really matter. its the hemoglobin thats the most important. seriously though, dont panic. although its preferable to get it sorted out soon, nothing bad is going to happen to her until the next clinic visit.

Get that doctor back on the phone and don't let him off until you have your answers. It is completely unacceptable that he would be so dissmissive to you. If you still can't get answers then go to clinic sooner. You should NEVER be forced to wait for answers, but unfortunately you have to be the one who is on top of these people.
