Weird, I had a port placed on Versed and I was allowed to eat right up until the procedure. I was perfectly fine. I am happy everything went ok for you!

Just as a side note...getting a PICC placed without being KO'ed or under real sedation isn't bad at all. For me we just put the EMLA for a while and then the only thing you really feel from then on is when they inject what I think is Lidocane. The only time I was asleep during the operation they messed up my line leading to a lot of pain and them having to put it in the other arm. While this result is not typical it doesn't really hurt w/o sedation and overall why take the risk? lol

If it was just Versed, I am not surprised- that can be given orally; often will just make you sleepy (or in Emily's case, just loopy) but doesn't knock you out. If given in combination with something like Propofol or Pentobarb, though, (even with 'conscious' or other light sedation) you are still knocked out and risk needing to be intubated, thus needing to be NPO.

I'm so glad the picc placement went well! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
