constant fatigue

Erin, i know what you're going through. My day isn't that strenuous, but I am wiped by the time dinner comes around. I have found in past experience that getting in regular exercise helps your energy. When I do that, it seems to help keep me going

Yup! i hear ya! i'm not tired all the time, but i get tired very easily. Simple things. I took my dog for a walk today and we went to the park and played, and after 5 minutes i was ready to go home and sit down. It could be what you're eating perhaps. When i eat crappy foods, like junk, i feel tired. But when i eat healthy i feel better. I know another thing is my O2 stats are low (between 89-92, always) so that's also why i'm tired. Could it be that with you??

This may or may not be the case with some of you as I do not know your level of illness - meaning your PFT range and your Oxygen saturation. I just know for myself probably about 5-6 months ago I started getting extremely fatigued with simple things. I would walk on the tread mill and I felt as though my legs were going to give out on me - AND I was NOT walking very fast at all maybe 2 miles per hour if I was lucky. I just felt too fatigued I would have to stop walking and rest. I started to get this more and more often. I ended up getting put on O2 at night around Christmas time about 2 months after this whole things started. The O2 helped a bit. I noticed it helped more when I used it while exercising.

I am now using O2 all the time - and have been for about 1 month now - my sats were at 89 when I was admitted to the hospital in Jan. I have had sats in the low 90s - around 92-93 - since I was discharged from the hospital but I continue to use the O2 because I feel better and less fatigued.

I have just gone through testing for a lung transplant and one of the tests they did indicated that I had mild pulmonary hypertension at rest that became more severe as I exercised. Basically pulmonary hypertension is high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery - my normal blood pressure is normal if not on the low side. The transplant doc told me that the fatigue that I have experienced is most likely due to pulmonary hypertension as that causes fatigue and weakness and such. My thoughts in saying this is that pulmonary hypertension is caused by lack of oxygen or oxygen depravation - by what the doc told me - and is common in people with chronic and severe lung disease. It can cause problems for you, so if you are not getting enough O2 (as Breezy indicated she has problems with) you may want to use O2 ven if it is not a pleasant thought (trust me I totally understand not wanting too use it). Just a thought to throw out there in the event that you had more severe lung problems this may be a source for some of your problems.

In the past - before my lung functionreally took a dive I would get fatigued and weak when I hadn't slept enough or if my blood sugar was chronically low or high.

I hope you figure out what is going on and start feeling better soon.

Take Care,
Lindsey

Yes, I could easily argue for me though that it is because I am an idiot when it comes to time management and scheduling..

My body between demands 10 hours of sleep a night or it will not work right.. I have no choice, I have tried to wean myself from it but I can't...

Many nights I can't get 10 hours of sleep so I am constantly tired and my body will not work good.. I get wheezy, dizzy, grumpy, sleepy. ( I know I sound like I am naming the 7 dwarfs.)

I too worked part time ( closer to full time) and went to school full time.. It was hell on my body.. I was sick all the time.. In the hospital all the time.

I get real tired easily too and it has nothing to do with my lungs because they are still in great shape....I have to know I can't go out on work days.. If I do something one day. I need a recovery day....sort of thing
g

I wish I could bottle energy and pull in out when I need it

Hey Erin. I, too, am a full-time student and work between 20 and 25 hours a week. I know what you mean. Lately, I feel so exhausted. I don't even really feel super-sleepy; I just feel beat. Sometimes I'll be sitting there and my arms and legs will feel like they each weigh 50 pounds. I have no clue what it is. Some days I notice it less than others, but sometimes it's so bothersome that it's almost unbearable. I asked my doctor about it at my last clinic visit and he said that I was simply burning the candle at three ends. Like 2perfectboys suggested, you may want to cut back on something if that is possible. I think it may just have to do with CF in general. Exercising (although it can be hard when I'm so tired) seems to help boost my energy level.

Best of luck! Let us know if you find anything out.
