I think Lisa is great, and to her credit, she has done a lot for CF through her Ironman affliation - She helped make CF research the official charity of Ironman New Zealand a couple years ago, and does speak throughout Canada, etc (She's Canadian). There's a lot on the web about her if you google away.... I think she's also given some interviews on www.xtri.com

I don't think you can be suprised about not seeing anything CF related on her site... she is a professional triathele, and relies on sponsorships from companies. I think those companies care more about her advertising power as an Ironman champion than as a person with CF.

I think she's an amazing role model for people living their dreams who just happen to have CF. I find the fact that she doesn't make a big deal about her CF on her site or otherwise "use" it is admirable. Everyone deals with their CF differently, and if this is the best way that works for her I don't think anyone can judge that.

Thanks for the post! I hadn't heard of her, but I did check out her site. Actually, I did see some CF stuff on there...in a side bar. Anyway, I learned from her site that she will compete in a half triathalon in my state this summer (Didn't even kow we had one!) Think we might just make a short trip to see some of the action. Might be an interesting experience, especially if she wins!

Lisa is a really, really nice person! We've emailed back and forth a few times because I've done some triathlons and wanted some tips, and she almost came over to our house for dinner until I realized that catching Cepacia could ruin her career as a professional triathlete and cancelled it, lol. She has a "mild" case of CF, and I think the reason she doesn't have much on her site about it is because she doesn't feel like she deserves to talk about it as a struggle for her because it doesn't really affect her life much, and it wouldn't be fair for folks with more serious cases. She's one of the most positive, happy people I've ever met and SUCH a nice person.

By the way, she's actually won many, many Ironman races, including Ironman Canada and Ironman Germany, and I think New Zealand as well. So she's not just an athlete with CF but a cream-of-the-crop elite super athlete.

Lisa is great!

She does much to promote CF. In the early days of her career, she did not want special treatment from the other racers, so she did not "shout" her CF. Now she is more vocal.

I too have emailed with her. She competes in Ironman along with my former transplant coordinator from UNC. They have met and my coordinator was floored by this woman. Lisa would outdo my coordinator by a long shot. Lisa does get tune ups, and think this past year she was sick a couple times. She also was married in the last year or two.

People with CF do amazing things, I find everyday.

Thinks for the link...I had never heard of her, but she is amazing. I too saw a CF link to donate on her site and can understand why she does not talk about CF on this site.

I think it is so great what physical activity can do for one's CF. Besides luck, I think next would be enzymes, then exercise and finally antibiotics in that order that prolongs CF life.
