Hi Kathryn,
I have a site about CF/infertility and IVF, www.cysticfibrosismaleinfertility.com.
We did IVF in Washington state and it cost us about $15k all together, including the sperm retrieval.
When we were down in CA considering IVF we were looking at the MESA or TESA option for sperm retrieval and that alone was going to run us about $3500.
Amazingly enough, up in WA we just happened to go to a clinic where the doctor had experience with Non-surgical sperm aspiration (NSA) and it cost us $600 to put him under (which was optional, but Mark wanted it) and believe it or not my ins. which offers NO infertility covereage actually picked up the tab on that $600 anesthesia fee, and then $500 for the actual retrieval.
There is some additional information I'd be willing to share with you via email, (services@dafcf.org) if you are interested, and I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have.
There are also other options like going to www.inciid.org and checking out their FROM THE HEART IVF scholarship. I was actually chosen as a recipient in March of 2006 but we had just found out we were pregnant on our own. It's quite the application process, and it takes about 9-12 months from the time you submit your application to when it makes it to one of their reviews. they are a 100% volunteer organization (non-profit) so they only do these reviews about 1-2 times a year. I'd start working on the application now if I were you. I still have a copy of my letter that was submitted as a part of the requirement. If youd like to read it for ideas I'm happy to email it to you.
Best of luck!
