Coughing Cousin

Please tell me that I'm not crazy. My sister arrived last night at my parent's house (5 mins from me) and this morning her 3 year old started coughing. Maggie is now 11 months old and doing great.. not a cold, not a cough...knock on wood. My mom is panicing about me saying we may not be able to see them for Christmas if my niece is still coughing. If you more experienced CF families could just tell me that its not my OCD talking and we shouldn't go... this is the first time this has happened so I've never had to deal with it before and it is making me very sad and want to just risk it since its Maggie's first Christmas.....

im am more "conservative" when it comes to trying to protect my daughter from "germs"......i wouldnt let her spend any amount of time around another child who might be ill. (especially a respiratory issue) what does your sister think about his cough?? is this something normal for him or is it more of a bronchitits type?

Ugh! What type of cough is it? Could they take her to the doctor to see what she may have, explaining that she has a relative wcf.

We've had similar issues, but it's usually been an adult who was diagnosed with bronchitis or pneumonia several days prior, so by the time we saw them, they didn't have a productive cough. PLUS, they kept their distance, made sure they didn't touch the same things. Last summer at 4th of July a cousin called to say she had laryngitis, something she gets around allergy season. Again, we decided it was okay.

I'd be concerned as well. A toddler that age is most likely going to want to play with her cousin and vice versa, so it's going to be difficult to keep them apart. Both age groups tend to touch everything, put everything in their mouths. I'd be worried about germs on surfaces...

We've had this issue come up more times than I care to count. Right now it is me who has the cold/sore throat , basically I purell my hands and Maggie knows to keep her distance(course she's almost 7). A 3 year old is not able to contain their cough; does she have a fever? If she has a fever and a cough I would not bring your daughter. You need to do what you are comfortable with; CF families tend to have to be flexible with their plans and we usually try for a plan B...An 11th month will not remember the holidays this year but you and your family will.
