Hi Zoe,
I don't have long to write so this will be short but call me if you want more details at 425-891-2842. We totally went through this with my daughter- tried everything incl allergies, acid reflux, abx, sinuses, asthma, etc. It turned out that it was aspergillus- which they routinely DO NOT TREAT that was causing the trouble. Once treated- cough GONE within 2 weeks after trying to figure it out for about 10 MONTHS!! I know how you feel, me too, I would stay up at night worried. I was in tears so many times...
Luckily my wonderful CF center supported me and said no she should not be coughing like this but I still had to be the driving force- keep going back over and over, push them to try something else. So if she is culturing aspergillus (many with CF do, it's a fungus so abx don't work to get rid of it) consider the possibility if you have tried everything else.
Even if her tests don't show ABPA (which is an allergic reaction to the aspergillus) ask about it. My daughter's blood tests didn't show classic ABPA but only a slightly elevated reaction to it but it still causes her to cough- we are going through it again but this time we are more aware.
Good luck, hang in there and DON'T GIVE UP!!!
Big Hugs,
Lisa G.
