coughing up blood

I have coughed up blood twice in the past 3 months. i assume its normal, but im not sure. One night i woke up because i felt it bubble in my throat. it scared me. i always thought i coughed so much or so hard at the time, that i broke a vessel or something. its def. NOT fun.
