Coughing videos

Thanks again, Wanderlost for clearing things up. I just was interested in hearing what a CF related cough sounds like, that's all. I actually didn't think it would be this difficult to get people to post them lol.

Also didn't think that people would find it offensive, i mean like littledebbie said. If its not your cup of tea then don't respond to it.
I would like to know what is offensive about it? Can someone answer that for me.
Its definatly not some freakshow curiosity.

As for CF tube, just go to cftube.com i myself don't know how to post clips too. Have to get hubby to have a look and show me.

Amy, when we go to clinic we are only in the waiting room for approx 10mins, the doc's try to keep us separated so its impossible to stumble accorss a cf child for long enough to hear them cough. Also, Olivia goes on the red day's which means no bugs what so ever which means that all the other kids on that day are the same. You also mention a google search, we have tried but cannot exactly find a cf related one. Just thought it woud be a good idea posted on here as its been brought up before and there have been many people intersted in hearing diff types of cf coughs.

As for making it there just to listen to kid scough and not taking Olivia, its kind of hard when we have to drive 2hrs to get there. I just thought posting it here would be a good idea, and whoever wants to participate can.
You don't want to participate you don't have too. Its cool.

I would like to say a BIG thankyou, to those of you considering to do this.
It would be greatly appreciated by many.

Thanks Wuffles, you took the words right out of my mouth.

dasjsmum, that was the point of hearing the different types of cf coughs, realted to whatever infection you have. If you get what i mean. My brain is sizzled trying to respond to everyones replies, i'm probably not making anymore sence.

*sigh* i give up.

I agree that if posting a video is not your cup of tea then dont do it. As far as listening for another CFer to cough at clinic....I dont usually hear a CFer cough UNLESS they are doing a PFT. Our clinic is pretty careful about not having too many of us in the clinic at any given time. If I take the time to post a video I would let you know Eli. I do also agree that you would have to hear quite a few CFers to get some kind of idea of what just a regular CF cough is like versus a sickly CF cough. There are so many variables!

I'll start by saying I dont' think its offensive at all, and with you being a parent of a cfer I can see why you'd like to hear some.
For me I wouldn't do it b/c its a little too circus freak show to me. By that I mean I'd feel like a spectacle. But thats probably my own insecurities. Just figured I'd let you know the other side of it in case you were wondering the reason why I and maybe others wouldn't do it. When your daughter gets older she'll probably feel similar emotions at times, and it doesn't feel good to make your coughs on display-I, and most other cfers try to run to the bathroom and do it without 10 people staring at us, if we can!

Well, I'm totally techie-challenged, so I'd have no idea how to even do this... I can't even get a picture attached to the bottom of my posts on here! lol...

I also understand why you'd want to hear this. And, I too rarely here a cough that I can distinguish as a "CF cough" unless I'm admitted to the hospital on the CF floor and hear someone getting chest PT. I rarely hear a CF cough at clinic, but they also keep us very isolated.

More often, I hear "CF voice", which to me is more distinguishable... not to offend anyone, but I think many CFers have a bit of a "nasal" voice that I can pick out when they're checking into clinic if I'm in the waiting room. And, when I've talked to them on the phone, I feel we sound very similar in conversation. Interesting. Even people I know that have a cold, asthma or COPD or something don't seem to have the same voice I've heard when talking to several CF friends. And, I don't know if it has anything to do with sinuses, cause my sinuses have never been a problem, but I CLEARLY sound nasal and congested on my voicemail and stuff.

Anyway... sorry to get OT....

I also wanted to note that I don't think you could post a cough anonymously on this site anymore. They don't allow anon postings, so if you'd post your cough you'd certainly be identified with your username. Just something to think about. I can see why this fact alone will leave many hesitant to "cough".

If anyone wants to see mine, private message me. I've uploaded it to my photobucket account so I'll send you a link -- not to be shared around too much so my account bandwidth doesn't get completely used up!

By the way, I DEFINITELY have a CF voice. Very nasally. My cough is nothing exciting, just a dry cough with the occasional crackle which no-one else seems to notice except me.

Thanks Emma, for sharing this with me. Good on you for participating, i hope it enocurages others to do it. I mean it only lasted about 4-5 sec, which was also plenty of time to hear the cough.

Your cough just sounds normal, if there is a normal. Everyone always say's CF cough here CF cough there and it just made us wonder what is a CF cough? how do they sound? What are they supposed to sound like? etc.

I guess if your sounds "normal", which is the way mine sounds on the occasion when i'm not well. Thean its a good thing.

Thankyou again

Eli-I have 'mild' cf but would be happy to share my cough with you if someone tells me how, I recorded two brief coughs that are a bit wet as I have some post nasal drip left over from a cold last week.

kylie-go to the cystic fibrosis. com main page and click on CFTube link, there are videos there. I found the Cahill videos very interesting.
