Eli-I have 'mild' cf but would be happy to share my cough with you if someone tells me how, I recorded two brief coughs that are a bit wet as I have some post nasal drip left over from a cold last week.

kylie-go to the cystic fibrosis. com main page and click on CFTube link, there are videos there. I found the Cahill videos very interesting.

Also didn't think that people would find it offensive, i mean like littledebbie said. If its not your cup of tea then don't respond to it.

I would like to know what is offensive about it? Can someone answer that for me.

Its definatly not some freakshow curiosity.

Okay, i know I said I would stay out of this thread but since you asked and I am the one who said it bugged me I explain why as best I can. Let me just say since you can't hear my tone or anything I'm not like MAD or anything and I do acknowledge different strokes for different folks etc.

So...why this is offensive to ME: Okay so my entire life everyday I do my best to blend into the crowd and be as much like everyone else as possible. I'm skinny sure but so are lots of people so that can usually go un-remarked on. However as soon as I feel that old tickle in my chest I know in a about three seconds all eyes are going to be on me. The coughing in it's self is un-comfortable. On top of that I'm aware that I'm turning all lovely shades of purple and if I'm lucky my eye make-up I so pain stankingly applied is running down my cheeks. Charming, and of course everyone is staring at me or offering me water etc. and I know as soon as I can breath the questions will start and I'll have to fend them off. And just like that my charade is over and I'm officially different. yeah me...I'm so special.

Not only that but it's that lovely cough that kept me from playing soccer. Trying out for cheerleading and which kills any cool song I attempt to ruin with my vocal stylings. That cough is the bane of my existance.

I think you might be under the misconception that the CF has A SOUND. It does not...not the way I think you think it does. There is not a CF with Pseudo sound. And a CF with Cepacia sound, or a CF without active infection sound. It's like this. Debbie has a CF cough...it's my own unique blend just for me. Emily has hers, Liz has hers...I could keep going but I think I'm making my point. There might be some traits in common with a couple of us. But what really makes it a CF cough is that it never goes away. And we cough when we feel good and when we are sick, we cough when we are awake and when asleep.

So i think taping it for you to hear is futile. Your kids cough is her CF cough. it will change as she grows. But what you hear...thats her CF cough. She's coughing because she has CF...so thats it.

And I think I thought it was one thing for you to ask and people said yes or no depending but then after a few said no you even come back and another parent or two chime in to what...cajole? Give me a break people.

So yah woohoo for anyone who wants to do it. But yah for me it's a just a bit to circus freak show.

I know would you like me to take a few pictures of my spit or my bm's while were at it? I mean it would be education for the parents right?

Hi Nicole, i would love to see it. Although i myself don't even know hoe to post the clip.

Wuffles (Emma) did hers on photobucket, maybe if you pm her she could explain it to you. I might even pm her for you, since i'm the one that wants to see it.

Hope you can figure it out.<img src="">

Edited to add - Thanks for explaining Debbie, although the comment you made about me and other parents coming back was a little out of tune. The reason for coming back was, because most thought they had to visually record themsleves and they didn't want to be seen coughing thier lungs out "so to speak". So i thought that i will mention that that didn't have to be the case if that's what they were concerend about. All we wanted to do was HEAR the cough. Like i said if people don't want to participate they don't have to.

Ps- i know you were not MAD, and neither am i. I just couldn't undertsand as to why someone would think of this as offensive, that's all. I meani don't come on here to offend people that's for sure, i came here for a reason #1 my daughter having being diagnosed with CF and me wanting to get all the information i need to keep her healthy and also be there for many of you cf'ers, parent's of cfer's, spouses etc. You get my drift............

Take care and be well<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

A video of me using the Vest while pregnant is at the top of the CFTube page today. Check it out. Turn up your volume to hear an example of the huff coughing technique (still working on perfecting it lol) and a "cf cough." Hope this helps someone.
