Coughing when?

My daughter is just over 1.5 yrs old and only coughs when she's having a screaming fit. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> My question...has your little one (or yourself) seldom coughed yet still cultured pseudomonas, or anything other than staph? She has cultured staph since diagnosis at two-weeks-old. This may seem like a moronic question, but is the fact that she rarely coughs a good thing or a bad thing? Her doctor suggested that Pulmozyme will make her cough as the mucus thins...however, she's been on Pulmozyme since October and still no increased cough. Her last radiograph was a few months ago and it suggested "changes" along her primary bronchi (hence the Pulmozyme). Her doctor stated that it is due to mucus build-up and not necessarily infection or thickening of tissue at this point. Thoughts??

my duaghter (2 yr old)cultured pseudo when she was 18 months old. She only had a very small count of it (10^2), but I noticed that she coughed maybe 2-3 times a day.

Nowdays when she coughs I do sputum culture ASAP, b/c usually it means that something is up.(no PA so far, touch wood). Otherwise she never coughs.

She also had bronchial wall thickening on last 2 x rays, but they say it looks like inflammation and not mucus build up.

DD (turned 2 in Sept) cultured PA last fall and had NO symptoms. I asked a few of my friends about it and they said it has happened to them also. It's funny b/c when we go to clinic and she's sick or has a few symptoms, she's fine... But, on the days when she has no symptoms, that's when she is growing something gross!
Do you have a vest yet? Does she let you do manual CPT?
My daughter HATED manual and now that we have the vest it's much easier to get it done now.
She just started coughing on demand a few months ago and that's pretty helpful also.
I have always heard that if they can cough, it is helpful to break up anything that may be building up. Maybe you can start working with her and get her to start coughing more.

My daughter cultured PA at 6 months and had NO cough (her x-ray they did after the culture did show a little something). She has had clear cultures ever since (knock on wood!) This fall she had a nasty two month long cough with clear x-rays and clear cultures. So who knows? Sure can be frustrating!
