I used to have this trouble too. To solvent it, I ordered a bed wedge, like others have said try propping yourself up. Trust me, it helps.

I didn't see this mentioned, forgive me if it was. The first thing I thought of was GERD. It is not as obvious as you might think it is. If your "juices" come up even a little it will irritate your throat and cause you to cough. Can be a problems for your lungs because of the risk of aspirating that bacteria. Taking nexium or other at night and using a Wedge pillow or propping your head up is a good solution.

I have the same problem. I have asked my doctor about it also, I was told even people without CF when they have a cough it will be worse when you lay down. I prop my head up a good bit. I also keep a glass of water a my bedside to sip on if needed. Do you do albuterol, sometimes if I get really bad I will do albuterol in the neb, that helps sometimes. Do you have any sinus troubles because the tickling could be post nasal drip. To be honest there are so many possibilities that you're going to have to look at the whole situation. There might be something that you think might not have anything to do with it but you never know. Look at other things going on at the same time. For example, are you sinuses stuffy or dripping, are you having any problems breathing, is your head propped. Those are the type things you need to let your doctor know so he/she can have a better idea of the whole picture. Coughing at night in bed can be so many different things. I have taken some cough medicine even though the doctors told me not to and it dryed out my lungs severely. That's something you don't want, believe me. Hope you can get this under control. I know exactly what it's like to be up all night coughing, I sypmathize.
