couple of funnies (poop-releated trigger warning) from last ER trip

So DS's tummy started acting up and long story short, ended in ER yesterday after consulting on call GI again to assure no obstruction. It wasn't thank God, but a long day. But still some "fun" with it all. First, the "mom" joke: As the nurse practitioner was asking DS some questions about what was going on she said "are you farting a lot." My eyes nearly popped out of my head as I gave her the "what the he!! are you thinking" look. As he said, "what's that," she realized what she had done and was trying to suppress her laugh as she looked at me apologetically and I too tried to keep a straight face as I said nonchalantly "are you passing gas a lot?" Not that DS doesn't have that little boy fascination with it....because he then proceeded to tell her that yeah, and it was extremely funny when he pass gas in mommy's face the night before when I bent his legs...he just didn't know the word! Let's hope he still doesn't.

The doctor had to check his bottom too to make sure there wasn't something stuck at the end in that void, which he is very sensitive too and was excruciating for him. About 30 minutes later when he was asking why everything took so long, etc. we explained that's how ER works and if possible we try not to have to go to the ER, but we do if we have to, and that it's a pain in the butt, though. And he started laughing and pointed to his sore bum and said "yeah, it IS a PAIN in the BUTT."

Three hours later after he did an amazing job of being pleasant, he decided to play "Bop it" which was a new toy he got for his birthday that requires you to "bop" a button, twist a button, pull a button, with mommy...except I hadn't brought the toy. Overall he was great though!

I'm glad he's learned to take it in stride and so well! I hope everything came out alright...... (pun intended! ) I will warn you though......despite all your attempts to keep references to bodily functions civil, somewhere along the line - and soon - they will learn the less than pleasant jargon and be absolutely enamored with it!!!!
Best of luck!

How is your little guy doing? Hope things are moving in the right direction. GI issues have settled down here. Had one episode of belly pain and they made up get a belly X-ray a few months ago(was just full of air)

We made some diet adjustments.per GI No sugar free stuff. no gum. no straws. no carbonated drinks. We do Miralax twice a day and the VSL #3 probiotic.

My daughter cheats here and there with the above list.

For example; went to the movies the other day she got a diet coke with a straw, nachos and popcorn...She looked at me while stuffing popcorn in her face and said" boy I am going to have a belly ache tomorrow but it's worth it"! Oy.

Gammaw: hee hee. Oh, I know and have every expectation it is just a matter of time. DH is actually more appalled by the little boy crassness as his mom and grandma were southern belles, whereas I was raised in a trailer park in rural Wisconsin and ain't too refined! I just thought it was hilarious that the nurse practitioner would be the one who introduced the word!!

Rebjane: He's doing much better but not sure if we're back to our "good" year or the 4+ bad years. Yesterday was great other than last few horribly painful Senna stools but this am I thought was "normal" with his stool but then he did his not hungry, gag with enzyme routine at breakfast. The thing I just am struggling with is that it starts with certain foods--Texas Toast prior culprit this time he had too much McDonald's hamburger bun. (Yes, lesson learned.. Texas Toast has been out of diet for 2 - 3 years, but he never ate that much Mcdonald's bun to cause an issue before. ...so now I know.) But the problem isn't the belly ache tomorrow but the start of the constant belly aches, gaging with enzymes, waking at night, funky stooling, draino belly sounds, not hungry, not eating. He had the McD white bread 2 weeks ago Saturday. No tummy ache etc. but routine started like clock work next day, stool changed from 3-5 pudding to 1 white/tan hard to escalating with liquid and the whole pain routine. Did the upping of Miralax that worked for little issues; then did the 3 day clean out; then the enima, then redid the 3 day clean out but with a vomit sending us to er. Lots of gas...little stool, although the enima helped because that day he was stooling his pants and his PCP said it was leakage and told us to do the enima. Things got better then. The good is I have a diary of everything and we had been stable for about 1 year so hopefully the GI can look at it more objectively ...assuming we get back to the good normal so we know what to do next time (if there is...since I'm watching white bread like a hawk on a rabbit). If back to the bad normal, then my only thought is to try the flagyl like drug again which is what changed things to good two times even though there is no explanation for why...We had his 6 year old check up in 2 weeks and his PCP is more experienced with kids (clinic, not teaching hospital) so hoping he has some ideas as well. Thanks! (And thoughts always welcome.
