Alright, since my son is still little and he was my first introduction to CF, I am still learning a lot of stuff about it. However, what we have to do as far as his daily routine goes, I am just curious what other people go through and if there is anything comparable...

basically, i was given instructions to give TOby his Xopenex 2x a day. ONCE that is completed, I have to do the "thumping" (or whatever the technical term is, i am not quite sure, so if yo ucan help me out with that too! LOL)... I am wondering, is the "thumping" necessary to do directly after the nebulizer treatment or are those just 2 things that MUST be done, but not necessarily back to back?

Next, I know there are a lot of people that use the vest. Is that used instead of the "thumping" on his chest and back? Or is that done along with?

I would like to use the vest instead of having to "thump", but I am not sure if they are for the same thing.

Thanks!

Fist, cute picutes!!!

Second, yes, the thumping and the vest do the same thing.

Lastly, my girls have the vest, but they still like to get the 'thumping' done once in while instead of the vest. We call our 'thumbping or CPT' Love Pats in our house I can't help with the Xopenex timing and the Love Pats because my girls are not on Xopenex and I am not sure what is recommended. My girls also use a little device called an Acapella, which brings up more mucus in them than the vest or Love Pats. I Love that little device!

My girls use their Acapellas in the morning in the car on the way to school. Then the vest is used at night. Or like last night, Kayla did her vest while I did Love Pats by hand on Hannah b/c that is what she wanted to do

Hey Lisa! What a cute baby! Just wanted to say it is best to do the thumping right after the Xopenex because the xopenex opens his airways which with the thumping can then help the mucous come up easier since the airways are larger.

I would recommend getting a vest as soon as the doctors recommend it. Sometimes it can be a hassle with insurance companies (it usually costs over $10,000) so I would try to start working on getting one. It will be more convenient for you and I generally think it works better on me than just normal "thumping".

I also agree with Tammy and think the acapella is a great device you should look into when Toby is old enough to use it. Hope this helps! Ginger

Hi there,

we have been doing CPT for about 8 months now, and it's starting get tough now that Little Ellie is on the move. We are actually having a vest fitting on Thursday to see how she does, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping she likes it.
