For those who have used chest percusors (sp), do you think it is
more like manual physiotherapy? I'm wondering because manual seems
to work better for me than the vest, and I will possibly purchase a
percussor if it is more like the manual therapy. I haven't used a
percussor in years and I can't really remember what it was
like.
Everyone is different in what they prefer.

I liked hand cupping when I was pre transplant. After tx, when I got an infection and needed chest physiotherapy, I did the vest and liked it.

I have used various percussors, from the $26 model to the $900 model, to a sonic percussor, which was like $3,000. I never liked them. My sister loved the sonic. Also we used the handle of a large screwdriver, sink plungers, spatula, anything that looked like it had potential we tried. Some find exercise is the best, or jumping on a trampoline, or swimming.

I no longer need to use the vest, but sometimes put it on for the massage it gives me... weird, I know but hey, it is a total different story post transplant.

I got mine supplied through homecare at my CF clinic, but you can buy them at stores as well. I know that Sears carries one that's really good. Here's the link:

Hope this link works. If not I'll post a pic of it. I believe that its only$34.95.

I don't really know if it is more like manual CPT or not, but I prefer using my percussor over my vest. I remember my mom and grandma having to do my CPT by hand when I was younger and I hated it. I got my percussor, oh, probably in 1987 or 1988. I keep waiting for it to poop out on me one of these days. I think the version I have (Puritan Bennet) is no longer made. That was too many years ago for me to remeber the cost (lol). I don't really know what they have available today.

I've read many postings of cf patients that really like their vest. I think it is just a personal preference. Maybe you can check with the cf clinic to see if they have a model of either the vest or percussor that you can test first before you make a decision.

Good luck!
