Creatin and Tobra

hey there...

I was on IV Tobra last hospitalization and it shut my kidneys down. My creatnine and BUN levels were super high, these are probably the levels your doc is referring to. Just make sure your doc is keeping a VERY close eye on your blood work. Thankfully, the damage that was done to my kidneys from Tobra was reversable, unlike any ear damage that's caused by Tobra. It took about a month for them to get completely back to normal, but since it sounds like they're catching any damage early and taking precautions, any damage to your kidneys will probably be reverseable as well. STAY HYDRATED!!! Being dehydrated while your kidneys are compromised makes everything worse (trust me, I know!).

hope you feel better soon!

just to add...I was on home IVs too when this happened, but I live close enough to my CF center that going to the hosp. everyday for blood draws wasn't a big deal. If your CF doc is like mine, then just keep your phone handy for blood work updates, lol.

again, good luck and feel better, and decreasing, if not stopping, the Tobra completely should REALLY help you out. Like I said, it sounds like they're catching any problems early (at least earlier than they did for me).

you're in my thoughts! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
