Creon question

Solo:

I take DOXYCYCLINE MOMO 50mg Tab. 2 tab first day then one/day for 6 days.

I gave you the name of a Doctor to see. I know that it is costly to fly to Boston but if you could come here early on a Friday am, you could see him and fly back that afternoon.

If I didn't think that it would be extremely important to you, I wouldn's suggest it. Like I said...been there done that.

Bill

Well I get a bad reaction to Doxy; I don't remember what it is, as I took it years ago. I think I will buy more Ensure drinks, as they are practically meal replacements and if I take 5 enzymes with it I have no gas. Plus Handisnack crackers and cheese I take 4 enzymes and no gas.

I looked that doc up, and he sounds like he certainly knows his stuff, and I'll have to think about traveling to Boston. But I do think my flatulence is enzyme-related, and I have a pretty good team of CF docs here in Pa. Thanks.

He is the ONLY Doctor in the USA who does what he does. He is a presenter at every CF Conference. All of his time is Gastro/CF related. He only sees patients on Fridays, the rest of his time on Gastro/CF Research.

Trust me, he dosen't need your business and there is nobody on your CF Team that can help you like he most likely can. It is your call and this is the last that I will say on this subject.

Just a thought...do you take Prevacid? I understand that when prescribed to CFer's, it contributes to the enzymes efficacy. My daughter has been on both forever and I was miffed that she was taking more medications (Prevacid) when she didn't have symptoms of an ulcer or GERD. I was writing a paper on something, it leaves me, now, but I came across a medical site stating that ranitidine (Zantac) and proton pump inhibitors (Prevacid, Nexium, Prilosec) increase the efficacy of enteric-coated digestive enzymes. Just thinking maybe that could help? I agree with Bill, 16 may be a bit excessive.

Excepting for the fact that gas smells for the benefit of the deaf, most Cfers don't need this problem. For openers it hurts. Sometimes that "hurt" defy's description. The prescribing of Creon or any other enzyme supliment for CF has been most often a black art for a CF specialist or a good Gi doc. Science once again comes to our aid. The trick is finding somebody who has learned the science and is willing to make life with pancreatic insufficancy closer to normal. I second the suggestion Printer made to look up Dr. Steven Freedman. A fecal elastase test or some other metrics could be quantified specifically in your situation. Don't shoot blind if you don't have to. I haven't looked into this myself but Lena's suggestion that you consider switching enzyme regiments may find you meeting an updated and on the market old friend; Pancreacarb. It was rumored to be back about this time last year. If the name isn't clear, the new Pancreacarb, like the old contains the buffer sodium bicarbonate, formerly produced by your pancreas. Sodium Bicarbonate rocks where enzymes fear to tread. Then the big question, you need to know how much of what, works? If you had my lab and the desire to play in poop, it is easy. Assuming neither are high on your list. See Dr. Freedman, this man is a brilliant asset to the CF community. Catch him while you can.
