hi, my nephews get croup quite often and my daughter has cf. I usually avoid them when they have croup because it is contagious. I also know that when they have croup their airways close up so tight that sometimes she has to take them in to emerg. Just my opinion but it is better to be safe than sorry

Usually the virus and symptoms last 3-4 days. If the nephew is still coughing, it's definitely off limits. If he's been cough-free for a couple days, then you should be fine. My son had croup when he was 1-1/2 and it was not a fun experience.

My daughter had croup last winter. Its very contagious.
I have a huge family and have been in this situation a dozen times. If you want to go, don't go with the mentality 'if' we get sick. Go assuming that someone will get sick. If you're willing to pay the price (antibiotics, ivs, or doc visits) then go. Conversely, you could get the same virus walking into the grocery store. But you have to go there, thats the difference.
For me, i've just been through it too many times. I'm happier saying no, making a fun dinner and cuddling with the kids on the sofa. Its just not worth it anymore!
I hope you didn't go, I ended up with a cold in November, a plain old cold virus I caught and I have been intubated over it for six days and in also recently put back in the ICU again for a weeke, just recently getting out two days ago.. We never know what are bodies are going to do or how they are going to respond to something as simple as a virus.
