I was wondering if anyone has been on a cruise? Which one did you take and where? Also do you have any advice on having CF and taking a cruise? Anything you wish you brought, etc..

I'm a little worried about the lack of health care on the ship that I have heard rumors about and if it's really clean. Since the ships are registered in other countries they are not required to follow all of US health codes, so I wanted to hear from anyone that has been on one before and hear what you thought of your experience.

I went on a Carnival cruise to Bermuda two years ago. The ship was awesome and very clean. I had a note from my doc with a list of my meds and equipment that I needed to take with me. I had no trouble getting any of it on the boat. The only problem I had was the guy at the port trying to get me to take off my insulin pump, which his coworker immediately reemed him out for. As for healthcare on the boat, there is an infirmary with a doctor on board and if something were to happen they should be able help you arrange transportation home from the nearest port. In fact, there was just an article in our local paper about a boys whose appendix burst on a cruise and the ship arranged for a helicopter to pick him up.
I had a great time on my cruise and I bet you would too!

I went on a cruise for my honeymoon in Sept of 09'. The Carnival Conquest. It was the best trip I have ever been on. Ship was clean, however I recommend doing the sit down restaurant more then buffet. Too many people using the serving utensils. They did have hand sanitizer at every food line but I tried to stay away. Besides the sit down rest was better anyways. I liked that I could go back to the room and rest at any time. I brought all my meds- no problem. I took dramamine with me but didn't need it. I didn't cough the whole time! It was to Florida Keys and the Bahamas and there is something to be said about the salty air. I didn't think about cf for the whole week. I did buy insurance incase something where to happen on the ship I could be transported out. The insurance only cost $100 for my husband and I. The only negative is that the casino and one bar were smoky- the rest was non smoking. But that is really anywhere casino. I hope you get to go and have a good time!

- Use your room for all bathroom trips.
- Carry hand sanitizer at all times.
- By the bottled water plan so you stay well hydrated...nothing like a bottle of Evian at all times to keep you drinking water right?

- travelbyalan a travel agent I learned about here out of seattle has great deals. subscribe to their emails...well worth the effort.
