Crummy cough in the morning and before bed

I actually feel really good except this freaking crummy cough 1st thing when I wake up in the morning and then at night right before it is time for me to do my nebs. I guess I probably never updated a few months ago when I was to get my 1st PICC. I went in and they tried twice to get it in. I freaked out and asked to go home. I was so nervous about getting the PICC and when things started to go wrong I took that as a sign to get out of PICC-ville. My Dr. let me go home w/out doing any IV's just finish the course of oral meds. Ugh. I know I should probably just do a couse of IV's. In the end I will feel even better but I have so much anxiety about the whole things. HELP! Or at least kick my ass enough so I do not care that someone is putting a huge ass thing in my arm.

Hi Anne-

Where are they doing the PICC lines? Have you had one under fluroscopy? When I was younger they tried to place a PICC bedside, it was a nightmare and they sent me to radiology to have it placed. That is the only way I will have a PICC placed. They strap your arm down, you look the other way, lots of numbing meds and you hardly feel it go in. And you get to go home, have the home health care nurse come in and set you up. Easy and on your own terms.

If an am cough is not your norm and you know you need IVan to come and make you feel better, than I say do it. You really don't want it to linger, than IVan will over stay his welcome for added weeks.. and you def DO NOT want scarring of the lungs...

They always allow my husband to come in, if he wants, to hold the other hand. Maybe your husband can go with you and help calm your nerves...

Let us know what you decide..

Bedside! How barbaric! lol!

I think if you went to Radiology your expierence would be alot different. They numb your arm, just a pinch, and than they place the line after a few minutes, so the meds work. It usually takes a 1/2 hour.

Plus, they sonogram your arm, to find the best vein, so they are not re-sticking you. They take an Xray to make sure the line is where it is supposed to be, fill out a pamphlet and you are on your way home!

No wonder you are scared stiff of PICC lines, If I did mine bedside, I would be too. When I had mine years ago, the nurse was fishing around in my arm, for the vein, with that long needle! I dont think so!! And never got it!!
