Ok, Tiffany had to go to a new ped due to change in her insurance. That is bad enough because the one who knows all about Graysons condition and everything she has been through can no longer see her and we have to start over. Well, the new one was concerned about Graycie's size and head size and wanted a CT done to her head to make sure that the bones haven't fused together. She said that she was taking care of Graysons overall health and not the CF part of her history. When talking to the CF team they thought that being malnourished was the reason she was a 3% and not to worry. Has anyone else had to have CT's done due to small size and was it due to malnutrition? We are being more agressive with her food intake since she only gained 10grams in a month our new goal is 1/2 to 1 lb. How can this new ped not take into account her CF when examining her? Still waiting on the CT results.

I would let this ped see the results & if need be (assuming the ct doesnt show anything) have the CF Clinic speak with the new ped.

Its possible that given Gracie's long history in a short amount of time that the new ped just doesnt get it.

I know its hard when bouncing between 2 doctors. But IMHO the CF clinic supercedes (sp?) the ped because IMHO CF CAN (not always tho) affect so much that if they feel it needs to be addressed by someone else they will tell you.

Of course, this is assuming, that you have a good clinic, a good relationship with them etc!

Sorry to hear thats its just another thing to deal with <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I would definitely discuss it with your CF dr before having her go through any tests.

Our dd went through a needless hospitalization and lots of finger pricks because her pediatrician and the diabetes expert at the hospital thought she had type 1 diabetes. The diabetes doctor had even said that he was treating CF patients and knew about CF. But when we later talked to our CF doctor, he said no way. He could have told us not to worry about it. She had an infection and that can cause a blood sugar spike that looks like diabetes.

We never do any tests until we've talked to the CF doctor first.

Do you HAVE to go to this ped? Perhaps a look around at other peds in network w/ your plan would be in order. Some basic ? would be how much they know about CF, are htey willing to defer to the clinic ppl when it comes to specific health conditions related to CF? Maybe your CF team has a ped they like.
