Hi, my daughter is 12 years old and went to see her pulmonologist last week thurs. she ordered a ct scan and am kind of worried, she hasn't had one in awhile and not sure what she is worried about, Adri has been healthy for last year except have noticed change in shape of her fingers. Anyone know why???

My understanding of clubbing is that the blood accumulates at the tip of the fingers due to a lack of oxygen.

As for a CT scan, it is more accurate in checking the situation of the lungs than an X-ray would.

Basically, an X-ray just throws radiation through the body and catches it on a piece of film which is developed.

A CT scan is also radiation but is directed via computer control and is collected as data. From there it can be easier to aquisition. Oh, a CT scan also emits less radiation than an X-ray because it's targeting ability.

My doc always orders a CT scan for me...
