cultured our first PA

Avery cultured PA last year around this time. Our doctor had her doing IV's two weeks later. The PA is and has been gone for the last year. What really stinks though is now she cultures MRSA. Which I firmly believe she got from the hospital stay (when she got the IV's). One in exchange for another!

Many CF doctors do different things. Our clinic is very aggressive and has statistically great results. If you belive in your doctor you should do what he thinks is necessary.

Marissa cultured PA 2 1/2 years ago. She did Cipro and Tobi (28 days on, 28 days off, for a total of 56 days). She hasn't cultured it again as of yet. I was surprised at how quickly this terribly scary thing was to get rid of. I thought I was going to freak when she cultured it, and then three months later I was surprised that it cleared up faster than her ear infections.

Good Luck!

Now you've given me another question to ask our CF doctor. He says that he'll treat PA aggressively upon her first culture which means 4 weeks of IV tobramycin. I'll ask him about the TOBI/Cipro combo and mention what I've read here at our visit next month...thank you!

Wow, 4 weeks? That seems a bit extreme for PA. There are a LOT of risks of IV tobra that I would be hesitant of a month long course. Kidney function, hearing issues, possibility of resistances. I would rather go with the high dose inhaled tobra -- TOBI and cipro. Lots less risk.
