Culturing Yeast

Just looking for input here....any experiences....knowledge...what your clinic does....etc....
Six weeks ago, Zoe's throat culture showed "light growth of yeast isolated". I just got her results from last weeks throat culture (6 weeks later) it is now showing "heavy yeast growth".

Garran has cultured candida (yeast) off and on for many years. If it is only in his lungs (airways) they usually do a round of oral fluconozole for a few weeks to knock the yeast out. But there was one time when he had it in his blood (this is not as common) and they used IV antifungals in addition to the other antibiotics to kick everything else.

His Dr. also suggested he eat lots of yogurt, as this promotes the good bacteria in the gutt and helps alleviate extra overgrowth of candida as well.

But all the way up until tx he cultured candida in his lungs, and even a little after tx, but now nothing, after the fluconozole (diflucan).

About ten years ago I grew yeast in my sputum. My doctor put me on a month of oral fluconazole, I'm not sure of the strength, and at the next culture it was gone and hasn't come back since.

I hope this is of some help!
