I was reading a thread on the family section and they were talking about different numbers with sweat tests and it got me thinking...I have had three sweat test (all positive) I only know the numbers of two of them.. They were 67 and 70 which are on the lower end of positive... I have been told I have a very mild form of CF because in spite of all the lung infections I get, my lungs have no real damage to them and I am 33. I am also pancreatic insufficient...Do you know if the number for your sweat test has anyting to do with the severity of your lung disease??? I know the phenotype/genotype is very unpredictable but I was wondering about the overall number.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I dont think thats a good indicator of severity either. But it might since it is chloride and cf is a chloride defficiancy...or whatever it is thats the salt thingy...not good at this at all. i always say the wrong word. so you can laugh. lol

I don't think it does because i was tested 5 times for them to say that i might have a "slight" case of cf. And i'm a moderate case my pfts are at 50%. so if my sweat test results were too low for them to say for sure that i have it then wouldn't i be a light or mild case.... i mean they may find different results if they tested that, but basically i don't think it does

Sweat test levels are NOT indicitive of severity...only used for diagnostic reasons (anything over 60 indicates CF, 40-60 indicates borderline, below 40 indicates no CF). I, for example, tested quite high, at 110 and 108, but my CF is moderate. Current lung functions in the 50s and am also pancreatic insufficient.

I also tested pretty high, at 106 or 107, I forget which. We just asked my doc recently what my sweat test results were and both me and my mom laughed pretty hard when we heard it was over 100.
