Cutting Out Dairy

Perhaps a futile attempt to stop the problem before it starts: but of course one method of reducing your mucus production is to cut out dairy products.

I have a great lung function and no problem with weight, but i am tired of this bulls*** congestion every morning when i get up. it usually is gone by the end of the day, but i would like to nip this one in the bud.

I currently am on Pulmozyme and excercise like a fiend.

i've never tried zapping out dairy products from my diet and if i were to try this one i would have to come up with some good healthy replacements. any ideas on this? anyone tried it w/ positive results?

thanks!

Hi there,

I cut dairy out of my diet about 10 years ago, and it's made a great difference. The time I spend on treatments is less and it generally makes me feel better not having that extra mucous in my lungs. Every once in a while I have a small piece of cheese or whatever and I immediately feel the increased mucus... it makes me feel horrible. Remember though, by cutting dairy out of your diet, your not getting as much calcium and vitamins that come along with dairy products... that's the downside. Thank god for supplements though!

I've been using soy products for years (milk, cheese, yogurt, whatever I can find). I find it tasty, but some say it's an acquired taste and needs some getting used to.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Cheers,
Barbara

I wish I could cut them out completely but it definitely has helped me some. I'm way underweight so I still eat cheese and drink shakes with "milk by products."

I don't drink straight cow or goat milk at all though. I also never eat ice cream. I've started putting Silk (Soymilk) on my cereal and its really good. I wish I could cut out cheese and the other stuff but its just impossible considering my weight. I know what your saying though becasue dairy really makes me feel crappy.

And the makers of soy cheese really need to work on their product(s). I've yet to find a soy cheese that can melt and taste as good as regular cheese. Silk soy milk is very tasty, and their yogurt is great too.
