Cutting Out Dairy

YES Dairy is a mucus producing culprit for many. If you have not gone off dairy then what you do not know cannot hurt you. If you stay off Dairy for a month you will see the difference. It takes a few weeks for your body to clear all the extra mucus from your body.

Your inflammation will also be reduced.

There is a ton of calcium in green vegetables and there are some that believe that after a certain age that dairy contributes to bone loss. I do not know if I believe such things.

All I know is that I am off dairy for good. With new lungs, I still get pseudo in my sinuses and when I go on dairy two days later I noticed more mucus comes out. On a regular basis, i see minute amounts of mucus and it is not threat to me.

If you must have dairy, try organic. I no longer eat soy products (processed) I eat tempeh and soy nuts.

To get the extra calories, I eat hummus (I make it myself), beans, nuts, seeds, kamut breads and wheat free breads.

I get in plenty of calories as long as i combine my protein along with carbs and healthy fats.

keeping your blood sugar in the right range will help you keep the weight on.

Take care

Its so funny that you mention this! I have not cut out dairy at all, I still eat what I want a lot of times. I dont think I would give up cheese or milk, I love them too much and with the risk of vitamin deficiency and whatnot, I personally would not do it.

I do notice though, like this happened last night, when I eat drink cream, like for coffee, I get TONS of problems. I had homemade alfredo sauce last night, and my chest felt soooooo heavy and I was coughing and coughing and coughing. It was awful. I also used to notice that when I would get coffee from Dunks or something with cream, the same thing would happen. So I think over all, I will cut out cream, but for me personally, i wont cut out the rest of the dairy goodness...lol.

I know that this doesn't exactly pertain to the dairy question (I am a dairy nut, but have cut out a lot of it due to my recent CFRD diagnosis), but if you aren't doing hypertonic saline, that might be an option too, if reducing dairy doesn't help as much as you want.

The gunk that used to take all day for me to get up and out from first thing in the morning is gone with a HS neb first thing in the morning, and I don't have as much gunk when I wake up in the mornings since I also do the second one right before bed. Just thought that might help with that issue .

It is amazing how much better I feel without all that crud in my lungs to work on getting out all day, and how cruddy I feel if something happens and I don't get to do my HS (or at least I feel cruddy until I finally do get to do it ).

I tried cutting out dairy. I lasted 4 days. My body got so mad at me. My doctors somehow got me to try again; I lasted 5 days. My whole body just felt like dieing. Which was incredibly strange to my doctors. I swelled up, my joints all froze and I pretty much couldn't sleep from the utter unhappiness that I was feeing. I was -miserable- my doctors said "That's withdrawl. you shouldn't get withdrawl symptoms from something your body doesn't need. You should try to get past it.. you'd probably feel better" I sorta said "NO" as politely as possible. I'm backwards, what can I say?

Just thought i'd throw it out there; I notice no difference with dairy, and a huge difference without, but it's obviously negative. just my experience ....

hope all are well and i'm glad that quitting dairy has brought reliefe to others.
