I come from a family with two CFers. I was diagnosed at 18mo and my mom was pregant with my brother at the time. Looking back, she says that she probably would not have had another baby (my brother) if she knew about my CF earlier, but she is so glad she didn't have to make that choice. She was lucky because she was a stay at home mom. She took wonderful care of us, but it was hard work! As a child growing up with CF, it always made things easier for me knowing my brother and I were in it together. When doctors, friends, and famiy didn't understand, he always did. Just something to consider...

Hi, i have two children with cf, however it's a bit of a different situation. I have twin boys born 11/05/2008 both diagnosed at birth with cf. It's been a long road so far, and as hard as it was to findout they both had cf i almost look at it as a blessing because like someone else has already said, they will always have eachother to understand and to confide in. We're unsure at this point if we will have any other children as ours are still young but I personally have decided that if we do get pregnant we will not do the cvs. I believe things happen in my life for a reason and I personally don't believe in abortion so It would be pointless for me to risk the baby for no real reason other than to know beforehand. I'll accept any baby as he/she is born as i did with the first two. It's definitely complicated and it's definitely a lot of work but my children are worth every struggle we face.

Not to be a downer, but I had accidentally become pregnant after Max earlier this year. I was certain that I wanted a cvs done, not because I would have aborted if the baby had cvs, but because I just wanted to know. After meeting with the doctor I opted to wait for the amnio because the risk of miscarriage following a cvs seemed too high for me. I then had an amnio done at 15 1/2 weeks pregnant. My little boy (Logan) looked fantastic! Sadly though, he died 3 days later (although I didn't know it until I hit the 18 week mark). Following my d&e, the doctor could find no reason other than the amnio to have caused his death. You can't imagine how much I have second guessed my decision. I know that I was a statistical anomaly, but my point is, if you wouldn't abort even if there was cf, I just wanted to give you my horror story. Obviously, you have to make this decision & if you go forward, statistics are on your side. Ironically, I have never called to see whether Logan had cf - just couldn't bear it (I had already gotten the chromosomal workup back, which had all been normal).

Angela-

I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss. It's a terrible thing to lose a child that you love, at any stage or age. You'll be in my thoughts.
