Does anyone else get really bad acne outbreaks when they get sick? I have noticed that every time I don't feel good, I get a really bad outbreak.

I never noticed gettng acne when i am sick, but right around the time i was 28 , all of a sudden I developed acne. I went to a dermatologist and she prescribed "Retin-a-micro" and all it did, was dry out my skin terribly. Then when my doctor changed my one antibiotic to another ( "minocycline") the acne went away. I started to notice everytime he put me on "minocycline" the acne went away. When he left me on the minocycline for an extended period of ime, it went away completely and never came back. I have read that "tetracyclines" are used for clearing up acne, but you usually have to remain on them long term. This wasnt a problem for me since i am always on an antibiotic at all times since having b.cepacia. You would have to talk to your doctor and see if this would be a viable solution for you. Good luck ~ Diane

Hi DianeOur daughter who is now 11 has Cepecia. Do you know the strain you have? We are now down to Meripenim (sp?) IV that is the last antibiotic that she has any sensitivity to. I just wanted to ask what all you were doing theropy wise as well. Saraazmoon3@msn.com

Hi Sara, last tme i went to my doctor visit to give a sputum culture i asked him to make sure they let us know the answer to that question. Well, about 3 weeks ago i went fo my follow up visit, and wouldnt you know, the cepacia didnt show up. As much as i would love to believe it is gone i know it isnt. I still run fevers almost every single day and this only started once i got cepacia. I know sometimes it doesnt always show up in cultures, especially if they dont allow it to sit long enough. I did see on my list that i am suseptible to cipro, immipenim, and pipercillin. I am taking oral minocycline, and cipro and inhaled tobi right now, along with pulmozyme. I also use my inhaler ( albuterol) twice daily, and i do the vest at least once a day, more if i feel crappy. Im taking oral glutathione now as well ( started in May) seems to have helped a LOT with my energy level. I know how frustrating it is when it seems like the best antibiotics just wont do anymore. Like i once said in an earlier post.......b. cepaca reminds me of being amongst the thickest forrest where you can see the road , but never seem to get out of the woods. When i eventually do find out what strain i have i will post it on here somewhere. take care, ~ Diane 38 cf /b.cepacia/ diabetes

I get acne when I take Zithromax. I admit it works amazingly but to me nothing is worth how I feel about myself and how I live my life when I have acne. Shallow and pathetic but it's how it affects me.

like i posted b/fore i am so jealous of all of you who can take minocycline b.c./ it clears up acne so well!! unfortunatley it makes me very sick when i take it.to sara...i have b. cepacia too...when did you find out your daughter had it? i have the genomovar III strain...supposedley this is the "bad" one...the one that can cause "cepacia syndrome" but that is all relative to the patient of course. i have not been nearly as well as i used to since i got cepacia...but i also have not rapidly declined...i just have to try a little harder to take care of myself.

My Dad can always tell when I have a bad infection coming on - he says my face and hair look greasier. He gave me an explanation - something having to do with the body's production of oils when you get sick. So, it makes sense that you'd break out when you have an infection. I have also noticed Zithromax improved my skin. To each his own.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease caused by a recessive gene inherited by the child that must be received from both parents. If both parents are carriers there is only a 25% chance that the child will have cystic fibrosis, a 50% chance that the child will be a carrier (will carry the gene but not have the disease) and a 25% chance that the child will be completely unaffected – they will not be a carrier or suffer from the disease.

My husband always has acne while he is taking antibiotics... It seem to get better with one than with another.. but still it's always there...

I have acne issues as long as I can remember. I still belive that it is related to CF. Mucus is so thick it makes us cough, it gives us bacteria. Mucus is so thick it affects our reproductive system. Mucus is so thick that it scars our pancreas. So why wouldnt it affect our skin too? I have oily skin in general, but i think that CF mucus makes things worse. Ive undergone several treatments and im better now but i tend to dream that when correctors come out they will help us manage acne too. At least they will eliminate some of the reasons that give us acne right now. To me there is a strong connection between acne and CF.

So THAT's why I never had acne as a teenager and started having it when I left high school!

I have also noticed that my skin because all smooth and and perfect when I'm on IVs with Tobramycin and Ceftazidime.

Skincare is my profession ! It depends on where specifically you are breaking out? Or all over. Breakout are a response to how our body processes the food we eat, not the food itself( greasy foods do not make u break out for instance) CF related acne I would expect to either be on the chin which is directly corollated to how well our colon and intestines function or in between the brows and forehead which is lung related !! Hope this helps. My baby girl has CF and we couldn't love her more

I'm 35 and if I were not on birth control pills, I'd have acne 24/7. I've tried going off of them since I'm, ya know 35, I should be buying wrinkle cream not pro active!! But for me at least, it's an easy fix. Pathetic I think.
do you cf'ers look lung for your age? I commonly get comments about that.

Oye Acne! My face was pretty clear for a while, just the normal zit & pimple here and there, oh and blackheads, lots of blackheads. If I get sick and I'm sleeping or having fevers a lot, I tend to break out. Something about laying on my face for extended periods of time... Also, I started taking Kalydeco and it's been an uphill acne battle since. Good luck! I hope you find something to mellow it out.

not sure what that last post was for....Anyways. I have this battle with dh. I get oily yucky crappy flakey hair and I start to break out (and I have larger pores so its pretty apparent). I have tried explaining its me being sick (or PMSing, whenever that happens) but he argues that I am not taking care of my self. I also have issues with my nails cracking and splitting which means I cant grow then out. Its definately a drop in self confidence!
