I take Premarin 3.25....all hot flashes/night sweats stopped after 2nd day...there are cancer warnings about it, so it a personal choice. My CF doc said it won't affect CF. The only thing is, once you start on it...you are on it the rest of your life or everything will come back. I had to do something as over the counter stuff wasn't working and the hot flashes were so bad, I felt like I was cooking my brain and thinking at work was almost impossible. Again, it is a personal choice. I have been on it for over 12 years.

Hi Rita,
I completed menopause by the age of 50.. I had gone through it for several years.
The night sweats & mood swings were insane & almost made me insane. Its a wonder I didn't end up in jail for murder lol ..
Being a CF'er & being on tons of meds I didn't want to add anything else so I toughed it out, not easy to do & Im sure not everyone can do it.. You have to find what works best for you.
I'd just like to mention that having cultured Myco Bacterium Abscesses I sometimes wonder if some of those night sweats were do to the Myco??

And NOW my period is 4 days late. I HAVE NEVER BEEN LATE OR MISSED A PERIOD IN MY LIFE. I should also mention that I had my tubes tied 5 yrs ago. I do NOT take anything for my CF other than my enzymes and Vit ADEK, and Calcium that's it. Could I be "Perimenopausal" ?!?! Do/Can I go to the doctor so he can confirm it? Thank you

OMG, I've had early sign of menopause since I was about 35....hot flashes, night sweats, the works. Its still going on at 40. Sucks. Anyhow, still get my period here and there, just waiting for the darn things to just stop. No gray hairs yet though : ) (although both my slightly older siblings are going gray)

As Joni mentioned don't confuse hot flashes with night sweats. I would say if the sweats only happen at night then you probably have a bacterial infection you might not know you have such as MAC. But in all honesty I don't know if this is true. Don't hot flashes happen at all hours of the day where typically in the very beginning infection related fevers happen only during the night? Does anyone know a sure fire way to test if it's night sweats vs. menopause.

I went through menopause at 48. In the beginning it wasn't too bad. When things got worse I went on HRT. Then I ended up with blood clots in my lungs and stopped the HRT I was so scared. After 15 months off the HRT the symptoms came back even worse. I had around 20 hot flashes a day in which I would sweat profusely. I also had severe insomnia. Once I finally got to sleep I would wake up every night at 3:00 and would not be able to go back to sleep.
It was determined that my blood clots were caused by removal of my PICC line--a new nurse who had no idea what she was doing. Even though I still could be at risk for blood clots I finally decided that quality of life was more important. The hot flashes interfered with my day and I felt my like of sleep was affecting my overall health so I went back on the lowest dose of HRT. I now use the patch plus take Prometrium orally.
Just this week I started to have some spotting so I may have to increase the dose slightly but still feel that my quality of life at this point is important.
I wish you luck. I tried to tough it out for a long time but being on HRT is great for me.
