I know that it definately happens but I'm not sure how 'common' it is. I watch what I eat so hopefully I can prevent it. There are a few I've seen on here with Diabetes, CF related.
If I were you, I'd pick a popular topic listed here, scroll down on some of the replies, and find someone with it and ask them. Some people list it by their name when they sign a comment.
Sorry I can't help you more.

I have CFRD. I've heard that 10% of patients with CF get it. I don't think there's anyway to prevent it. I've always watched how I ate, and I got it at 14 years of age.

Hi,

most of the adult people with cf I know here in Germany do also have cf related diabetes (cfrd), me too. I think its quite "normal" because our pancreas isn´t working right from the beginning, so one can expect the insulin-production will also be involved some day...

It is common because ANYONE with pancreatic difficulties (CF or otherwise) to be prone to diabetes. The pancrease is what regulates our natural insulin so if its damages or altered by meds, illness or injury it wont work properly. This is why some CFers take years to develop diabetes if ever.....their panreatic involvement was minimal!

I am 32 and developed CF related diabetes when I was 24.....6 months after the birth of my daughter. CFRD is becoming very common because the number of adults with CF is much greater than it used to be. More than likely, if a CFer has pancreatic insufficiency, he/she will likely develop CFRD. Good luck to your daughter on her sinus surgery....I've had many of them myself.

I eat whatever I want, and sometimes can be a freak when it comes to sugar consumption. I dont have CFRD, and everytime i've had my blood sugar checked, it was normal. So I think theres other variables involved that let's some cystics slide and others get it.
