Ben is on a dairy/casein free diet since we found out he was allergic to milk. His weight did take a dip. We use soy milk but make sure it has vitamin D added; some generic soy milk does not. I cook with rice milk so we don't overdo they soy milk. Too much especially for boys is not good. We use duocal to add some calories, and he is still a toddler so we also add soy formula step 2 to his soy milk to add calories. If you go to the bright beginnings website they have a pediatric soy supplement drink that is like an instant breakfast. Our dietician suggested we give that to Ben. The hardest thing is no cheese. We did find tufutti products that have a cream cheese, sour cream and some other dairy free products. We have a really hard time because Ben is allergic to nuts too so some of the other milks like coconut and almond we can't use. I feel like we lose calories everywhere. Hope this is helpful to you! I am always stressing about Ben not being able to get enough calories due to the problems with milk and nut allergies.
